A Christian Nation? Receives Five Stars
David Rosman’s first book, A Christian Nation? An examination of Christian nation theories and proofs, has received a five-star review on Lee Harmon’s “The Dubious Disciple,” a Christian book review service.
A Christian Nation?, which Rosman began as two 750-columns for the Columbia Missourian, asked Christian nation advocates for their proofs to support their claims. In all, about 130 advocates provided their objective proofs, ranging from the original discovery of the New World, to the settling of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, to United States Supreme Court cases.
Rosman consolidated the responses and examined each in terms of validity, context and if the “proofs” indeed support the various theories that the United States was founded as and continues to be a Christian nation.
Harmon introduces himself as, “an author, historical Jesus scholar, book reviewer, and liberal Christian, which means I appreciate and attempt to exercise the humanitarian teachings of Jesus without getting hung up on supernatural or religious beliefs.”
In addition to A Christian Nation? other recent reviews include Jesus, A Revolutionary Biography by John Dominic Crossan and Revelation: Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament by Grant R. Osborne and one of the highly respected Baker Exegetical series.
Of A Christian Nation? Harmon writes:
Rosman’s analysis is very well-organized and actually quite balanced, even when he exposes America’s Cold War strategy. His research leads to the expected conclusion: Our nation was NOT founded on Christian beliefs. Although a few early individuals did make efforts to merge religion and government, most of those efforts were met by reason and properly rejected.
Of the book’s Cold War analysis, Harmon continues:
Rosman’s controversial finding: We became [officially] a nation “under God” in the 1950’s, when cold war propaganda necessitated our uniting against those godless commies in the USSR.
Harmon’s final conclusion, “I enjoyed the book and learned a ton…”
Rosman agrees with Harmon’s analysis that his books starts out “slow.”
“It is something I find with many other first time authors, especially those who self-publish. Now I found myself guilty of the same error. I promise I will do better next time.”
Rosman is now working on his second book concerning the perceived “wars” on religion and atheism, scheduled for completion in the spring of 2013.
