Makoto Teguramori Appointed as Hanoi FC Coach for 2024/2025 Season

Makoto Teguramori Takes Over as Hanoi FC Head Coach

Japanese coach Makoto Teguramori has officially become the head coach of Hanoi FC for the second half of the 2024/2025 season. Following a first half of the season that did not meet expectations, Hanoi FC decided to make a change in leadership to continue their pursuit of the V.League title and pursue bigger ambitions. After a series of negotiations, the club and the 1967-born coach reached a mutual agreement.

Starting his coaching career in 2008, Makoto Teguramori quickly established himself as a talented coach by leading Vegalta Sendai to the J2 League title in 2009 and securing promotion to J1 League. Under his guidance, Vegalta Sendai achieved consistent performances across several seasons, with the highlight being their runner-up finish in the J1 League in 2012, the highest in the club’s history.

Success with National Teams and Thai Clubs

In 2016, he had the opportunity to lead Japan’s U23 national team, including players such as Wataru Endō, Takumi Minamino, and Takuma Asano. He led the team to victory in the AFC U23 Championship and earned a spot in the 2016 Olympic Games. From 2022, Makoto Teguramori began his journey in Thailand, coaching clubs BG Pathum United and Chonburi. During this period, he helped BG Pathum United win the Thailand Champions Cup 2022, Thai League Cup 2023/2024, and reached the quarter-finals of the 2022 AFC Champions League.

Makoto Teguramori officially began his work at Hanoi FC on February 17, 2025, alongside his assistant coach, Yi Chang Yeob from South Korea. With his extensive experience and modern football philosophy, Teguramori is expected to bring fresh energy to the club as they take on new challenges.

On his first day, the 57-year-old coach stated, “Football is always evolving, and I aim to experience different football cultures to accumulate more knowledge. Vietnamese football is developing, and I’ve already watched a match in the V.League since arriving in Hanoi. It’s not easy to win this league, but we will do our best to lift the trophy at the end of the season. Please trust and support us.”
